Statement from the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce
SAN DIEGO (May 10, 2012) – The Chamber applauds
the National Travel and Tourism Strategy released today by the Obama
Administration’s Task Force on Travel and Competitiveness. This represents an important step in growing
our national economy by expanding travel to and within the U.S.
The
Chamber was proud to facilitate a meeting last month with Secretary Salazar to
discuss the role of the San Diego region in this effort. Promoting travel at our airport, on our cruise
ships and across the border is vital to generating economic benefit and jobs in
San Diego. Recent partnerships with
Japan Airlines for the city’s first nonstop service to Asia and the new
pedestrian bridge from Otay Mesa to Tijuana International Airport demonstrate
perfectly how to increase international accessibility and visibility to the San
Diego region.
The Chamber is dedicated to
supporting the national strategy which will help San Diego’s travel and tourism
industry, local businesses and our regional economy.
--Ruben Barrales, president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce
