San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Takes Action on Ballot Propositions

4/22/2010

The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met today, Thursday, April 22, 2010 and voted to oppose Propositions 16 and B, which will be on the June 8 ballot.

Proposition 16 would require local governments to obtain the approval of two-thirds of voters before providing electricity to new customers, expanding such service to new territories if any public funds are involved, or buying power at wholesale prices to sell to residents through a Community Choice Aggregation program if public funds or bonds are involved. The Board chose not to endorse this measure.

The Board also voted to oppose Proposition B - term limits for San Diego County Board of Supervisors. If approved, the ballot measure would limit members of the San Diego Board of Supervisors to serving two four-year terms. The Board voted to oppose the proposition because the current process has been successful and will keep experienced supervisors on the Board. If elected officials are not doing a good job, voters already have the power to vote them out of office after each term.
