Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade
The annual Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28th, 2011. The largest balloon parade in the country, it includes topnotch marching bands, floats and drill teams. The nationally televised parade along North Harbor Drive on the downtown San Diego Bay waterfront usually attracts more than 100,000 spectators.
Red Bull New Year's Eve extreme sports event "New Year, No Limits"
More than 15,000 people are expected to line the downtown waterfront area this New Year's Eve for a televised Red Bull snowmobile and motorcycle jump from Embarcadero Marina Park North over the water to Embarcadero Marina Park South. The "New Year, No Limits" jumps will take place shortly after 9 p.m. to coincide with the start of the New Year on the East Coast.
Groundbreaking ceremony for the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan's First Phase
A groundbreaking ceremony for the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan's First Phase will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Lane Field along the downtown waterfront. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. The $28 million first phase of improvements along the North Embarcadero will transform the San Diego bay front from the Navy Pier to B St. Pier. It includes a 105-foot-wide esplanade with formal gardens, plazas, shade pavilions and a waterfront promenade. Street improvements will be made to North Harbor Drive and West Broadway.
