An unpretentious American Grill dedicated to serving the best of Americas grub.
We serve award winning burgers, hickory smoked ribs and pulled pork. We serve awesome nachos and jumbo hot wings to smoked prime rib sandwiches and smoked turkey, bacon and avocado wraps. Our burgers are American temples of greatness. Our BBQ is rated in the top 5 in San Diego. Our salads are light and loaded with fresh vegetables.
Our success has been largely due to our belief in developing every menu item into something great. If it's not selling, figure out why and make it great or try a new menu idea. We hired BBQ expert, Charlie Rode, to build and run the hickory smoker. We have on board marketing whiz, Sheri Hendrickson, to build up our image and run the marketing campaigns.
We have been ardent believers in constant and nonstop marketing. Do it. Go big or struggle.
Our 5 simple rules to success are:
1. Simple food, professionally prepared and presented in a grandiose style.
2. Treat employees and customers as if it's Christmas and we are Santa.
3. Give the customers what they want and continuously develop dishes that make custumers happy.
4. Drop the ego trip, put down the bank statement, figure out a way and do it! Just do it! Stop fighting yourself and others and make something great happen.
5. Marketing is key!
A little history on us...
Chef John Wangler and Chef Steven Rode met as executive chef and sous chef at a labor intensive San Diego kitchen during the floundering economy. Sous Chef Steve was taking business courses at Cuyamaca College and Chef John was an executive chef at the time. It was in that kitchen where we were forced to make daily changing menus from scratch with materials that cost nearly always below $2.00 a pound. It was a swim or drown situation and we developed a progressive can-do-no-matter-what attitude. Drawing on our combined 56 years experience in kitchens and dining rooms, doing everything from washing dishes to serving as general manager, we worked very hard to create success. After a year of 12-14 hour days we decided we were sick of hearing the term "budget cutbacks" And so, we were born, out of a sense that we could do better. That the economy was getting better and that fear is a mind killer. Do it!
