The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Announces Energy Reliability Initiative Contact: Mitch Mitchell Tel: (619) 544-1360 Fax: (619) 744-7409 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 6, 2000 - The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a press conference on Thursday September 7, 9:30 a.m. at 402 West Broadway (lobby of the Wyndham Emerald Plaza Hotel). Working with several other pro-business organizations, the Chamber has devised a plan to help the business community achieve rate stability during what many are referring to as a crisis situation with regards to electricity rates. The Chamber will be joined at the press conference by representatives from the San Diego and Imperial Counties Heathcare Association, BIOCOM San Diego, the Food and Beverage Association of San Diego County, and the San Diego Business Improvement District Council. These groups have met with the Chamber and discussed the current situation regarding energy and the legislative solutions that have been developed by the State Legislature as well as other options available to their members businesses. "The reason for our discussions centered around the uncertainty that the business community faces in regards to the legislation (AB 265) and the possibility of having to pay a large bill in 2003 as a result of the balancing account created by the legislation. Our option will help assure businesses price stability until the current pricing system at the Power Exchange can be fixed," stated President and CEO Jessie Knight. The Chamber's initiative revolves around connecting San Diego businesses with Energy Service Providers that can guarantee the business community reliability and stability for the next few years. The Chamber will be meeting with other like minded Chambers throughout the region who are interested in participating in this initiative. |
